[Point Focus] Namida Bukuro & False Eyelid Crease Makeup

Hey angels, welcome to the second entry of my "Point Focus" mini blog series. You can read the previous post on eyebrows here and all of the posts in this series will be listed in the Gyaru Resources tab on this blog.

Today I'm going to talk about the namida bukuro (aegyo sal in Korean) and false eyelid crease makeup. Not every gal incorporates these elements into their looks but I'm going to show you what my makeup looks like with and without these and what they did for my overall makeup!

What is Namida Bukuro Makeup?

Namida Bukuro makeup is the accentuating and highlighting of the tear bag in your eyebag area. 

This element of makeup is really popular in Asian styles as it creates the illusion of larger and rounder eyes. You see it a lot in Korean and Douyin (Chinese Tiktok) makeup these days but it's also a fun element to add into gyaru makeup, especially if you have smaller eyes!

What is a False Eyelid Crease?

Double eyelids are a very coveted feature with Asians and those with monolids, so much so that there's a whole cosmetic surgery craze around it. For some people the idea of surgery for this particular feature may be off-putting or maybe they don't want to pay for something like this. Luckily there are tons of products and makeup techniques that you can use to simulate the look of a prominent eyelid crease (tape, glue, etc).

For some people these temporary methods still don't really work so some people have taken to straight up drawing a new crease. Here are some examples:

What Does Namida Bukuro and False Eyelid Crease Makeup Do?

As mentioned above, this makeup adds dimension to your overall look. While gyaru makeup can look really cute without these elements, you can definitely elevate your look with these. For example I did basically the same makeup with and without a false crease and namida bukuro, can you see the difference?

What Do You Need For Namida Bukuro and False Eyelid Crease Makeup?

You can basically use whatever you have on hand. For the namida bukuro makeup it's best to use a mid-tone eyeshadow though some people also opt to use an eyeliner or brow pencil. Some people even use a liquid eyeliner but I feel like that may be too harsh for most people unless you do very extreme makeup.

For the false eyelid crease I personally use a brown liquid liner as it gives the most precise application but some people opt to use and angled brush with eyeshadow, liquid eyeshadow, liquid/gel eyeliner, or a soft pencil eyeliner depending on the look of the crease you want to achieve.

How Do You Do Namida Bukuro Makeup?

Here's a small little tutorial on how I do my namida bukuro makeup. Depending on the overall eyeshape, the placement of this may change a little but the technique remains the same.

By the time you do this in your routine you'll probably have the rest of your eye makeup done, but for the sake of this tutorial I'm going to show you on my naked eye where the placement should be first!

Where to Draw Your Namida Bukuro

We're going to find our namida bukuro area. If you look straight into your mirror you might be able to see where the tear bag protrudes out under your eye. If not you can squint slightly to emphasize this protrusion. You'll want to shade under the protrusion and highlight the area above.

If you couldn't see the placement in the first picture, that's ok! I personally do not have a very prominent namida bukuro naturally so usually I'll squint a bit. Now you can see it more clearly in the second picture 💖

Drawing the Namida Bukuro

Now that you know where to place your products, let's actually do it. Here I've done the rest of my makeup. I'm going to be doing a large droop in this look so the placement is a bit lower to accommodate that. 

I think some good general rules  to follow are:

• the shading for your namida bukuro should not be too lower than the lowest part of your droop
• the shading should not extend further than your inner corner point or it will look overall unbalanced
• concentrate the shading color in the center where your eye is the fullest and feather the color out on either side making a slight curving shape (refer to the black line in the photo above where I'm squinting)

How Do You Do False Eyelid Crease Makeup?

For this, I generally just trace the shape of my natural crease but a lot higher up on my eyelid as my eyeliner and eyelashes usually eat up my natural crease. Unfortunately I usually do this as the last step of my eye makeup routine so my lashes and eyeliner serve as a guide for placement, but that means I can't take any good pics to show you the process 😭

My best tip for this is to stare straight into your mirror with your eye half open and go slow. You can map out your crease with dots if that helps and then connect them after. If you do this step before your liner and lashes you'll have an easier time but the placement might not be right if you're not used to doing this so I would save this method for when you're more familiar with how far up your eye makeup sits.

Summary

To summarize, these are the key points to take away from this post:

• Neither of these makeup elements are 1000% necessary for gyaru makeup however if done correctly, the can greatly enhance and elevate your look
• Use products suited for your skin type that compliment your desired makeup look (ex: use eyeshadows and pencil products for a softer look, liquid or even gel products for a more extreme look)
• Experiment with different shapes to find one that suits you
• If you have trouble finding placement for your namida bukuro, stare straight into your mirror and squint slightly
• Placement varies depending on your natural features & how extreme your makeup will be
• These are both very difficult to master so just keep practicing!!
