Hi angels!! It's been a while hasn't it? I just came back from a short trip that I'll blog about later. It was kind of chaotic but I had a lot of fun!! I've been healing up steadily from my surgery and life has been busy as usual but I'm still determined to one day get through this backlog (-‿-")
For my birthday I wanted to have a cute nail set so I went with this iridescent purple color and we did different colored gems on each hand. This was one of my favorite nail sets ever!! I couldn't pick a gem color so I was happy I got to do both pink and blue ( • ̀ω•́ )✧
At work I reached a new milestone of releasing my first mobile game! At the time of writing this post it's been over a year now and though the game did not perform as well as the company had hoped, it was still an important project for me and my first one as a producer. I learned a lot about myself and about my role so I am grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in this project.
We have a smart fridge at the office and someone set it up to view streams of the game lol
One of the best parts about working in video games is the crazy swag that gets sent around. I was so surprised when this giant ass box showed up at my apartment ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
Inside there were lots of goodies like stickers, posters, a long sleeve shirt, and a wireless charging station!Sometimes I feel like work is a slog but I love how satisfying and fun game launches are! They always remind me of how blessed I am to be working in such an interesting and dynamic industry ٩(^ᗜ^ )و ´-
Thanks for reading!
Hi Sei, thank you for sharing your work milestone! Congrats, that giant swag box is so cool — must have been such an awesome surprise to have delivered to your home.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you made it as a game designer, if you are open to sharing! I am also in the creative space but struggling to get my foot in the door of where I really want to be. You inspire me so much as a gal who is crushing it career wise ✨
Hi Josie, thanks for your sweet and thoughtful comment! It means a lot to me that you can find inspiration in my journey.
DeleteMy career has been a long and arduous experience thus far; I started out by getting a diploma for game art & design but this was definitely not a necessary step. I got my first role in the industry at EA through referrals from friends that already worked there. I always knew I wanted to be in production and not QA so I kept asking for guidance from my manager and seniors on the best way to move my career in that direction.
The best thing I did for myself at the time was network as well as turn all the work I was doing in that role into a skill bank for my next role. I think a key part to getting the role you want is using your current one as leverage to gain experience then spin that into something you can apply in your desired role. In a way you're creating your own opportunities if you can find multiple ways to frame and apply the skills you develop. So even if there aren't explicit training or growth opportunities for you at the time you, are still building your skills and value instead of being stagnant.
The people you know in the industry also plays an integral part to your success, so don’t be afraid to go out and participate in networking events or to make connections on LinkedIn. Try to make an effort to build meaningful relationships with people you'd feel happy working with or being associated with long term. This will really help with job opportunities and you'll also build your support network for when things don't go well (which is often since the industry is quite volatile).
I hope this was helpful for you, let me know if there's anything specific you want to know more about. I'm wishing you the best of luck on your career path!!
